Kalvitis discusses cooperation in transport and logistics with Hong Kong's administration

RIGA, Sept 11 (LETA) - Continuing his visit to China, Prime Minister Aigars Kalvitis (People's Party) visited Hong Kong where he met with the city's administration and several representatives from large transit companies in order to discuss cooperation possibilities in the transport and logistics sector, LETA was informed by the State Chancellery's Communications Department.
During a meeting with the Chief Secretary for Administration of Hong Kong Henry Tang, Kalvitis emphasized the strengthening of economic relations and the necessity to promote student exchanges. Tang approvingly assessed Kalvitis' initiative and emphasized that Honk Kong's education establishments offer the possibility to gain deeper knowledge and practical skill in the transport and logistics spheres.
Both officials also discussed the possibility to promote economic contacts between Latvia and Hong Kong, including the development of cooperation in the transport sector.
Kalvitis also visited the Honk Kong international terminal to acquaint himself with its work in the transport and transit field, as well as cooperation with global ports.
During the visit, Kalvitis met with the management of "Orient Overseas International Ltd.". The company, which has an annual profit of USD 4.6 billion and operates in container transportation and logistics services, also operates in Latvia. Kalvitis discussed the company's future plans and the possibility to expand its operations in Latvia.
Kalvitis will be in China until Wednesday, September 12 and then fly to Kyrgyzstan. |
