RIGA, Sept 16 (LETA) - The number of guests, served by hotels and other tourist accommodations in Latvia in the time period April-June this year, was 6 percent higher than in the respective period of time last year, reveals a report by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) on hotel and leisure accommodation occupancy in Q2 this year.
CBS informs that in Q2 this year, a total of 420,700 tourists were accommodated in hotels and other tourist accommodations in Latvia, of which 39 percent were residents of Latvia and 61 percent were guests from other countries.
76 percent of all tourists used accommodation services in Riga, 10 percent of tourists also stayed at least one night in Jurmala. The residents of Latvia, who used accommodation services within the country, most often stayed in hotels in Riga - 29 percent, Riga Region - 11 percent and Liepaja - 10 percent.
CBS inform that in the second quarter, 467 tourist accommodations were surveyed in Latvia, including 198 hotels. 113 of the surveyed tourist accommodations were located in Riga, including 81 hotels. 43 of the surveyed tourist accommodations, including 18 hotels, were located in Jurmala.
At the end of the second quarter of this year, there were 13,100 rooms and 29,100 beds available in tourist accommodations in Latvia.
CBS point out that in Q2 this year, compared with Q2 of 2007, the room and beds occupancy level in Latvia and Riga has decreased, except for May, when it was slightly higher than in May 2007.
CBS collects the data from hotels and other tourist accommodations in Latvia every month, including in its survey all hotels with at least ten rooms and guest houses with the minimum number of five rooms.
